Improve Your Writing As You Go

There was a local art studio with classes to teach you to paint a specific picture.

My wife and I took their class on a date night. The teacher walked everyone through creating a replica of the Nashville skyline.

The results

Everyone received the same instruction but you wouldn’t have known they were the same skyline.

As we left, we discussed our thoughts on our paintings. She said my painting was better. I thought hers was better. Looking at them now, hers is still better than mine.

It occurred to me creative work is subjective.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure

Fast forward to yesterday, my wife asked the kids to draw pictures to hang by her desk.

She gave them the same type of assignment we did in the art class. She decided to pick a robot. So we all started and ended up with different interpretations like the art class.

I wasn’t happy with my picture. I would’ve thrown it in the trash if she didn’t want to hang it. My wife and the kids loved my drawing and said it was the best one.

I loved their drawings.

The worst critic is you
