Multiple Topics are Killing Your Growth On Twitter.
And it’s probably happening on other networks too.
Over the past year, I’ve been involved in quite a few engagement groups. I’ve watched many accounts in the same group bypass my numbers in impressions and follower count. I’ve mentored people and watched them pass me too.
I couldn’t understand why.
They all had one thing in common. They posted about a single topic. Because of the algorithm, single topic accounts do better than multiple topic accounts.
Here’s why.
The people who follow you consume multiple topics. But the topics probably aren’t all of the things you post about.
Let’s say you post about mindset, writing, and finance.
• Person A consumes mindset content.
• Person B consumes writing content.
• Person C consumes finance content.
If you post mindset content. Person A will see the content. Person B and C will not. Because the topics aren’t related.
If you make one post about all 3 topics, then all 3 people would see the post.
The algorithm shows the content your followers consume most. Unrelated topics are difficult to create a single post containing all three. For the most impressions you must post about a single main topic. Your secondary topics need to be similar to the main topic.
You can post on multiple topics. Just realize your growth won’t be as fast as someone who does. This is why some people grow really fast. While others struggle.
Figure out which topic performs the best. Then only post about this topic.
The algorithm will reward you with more impressions.
