What is a creator Economy?

According to Mighty Networks, “The creator economy is an economy built around highly motivated, creative, and skilled individuals that have started their own brand, business, or community utilizing a digital platform to share their work.”

Why it matters

Normal people just like you can earn a living by helping others learn what you know. The creator economy is the whole reason you subscribe to this newsletter. You want to make money by creating online.

Social platforms know this is the future. They’re making it easy for you to get funded. In fact, Facebook announced they’re investing $1,000,000,000 into creators. Yes, that’s 9 zeroes or ONE BILLION DOLLARS. Twitter has been working to help creators by adding tip jars, subscriptions, and newsletters.

It’s estimated there are 50 million people who call themselves creators. The younger generations strive to be top creators. They’re all shooting to have a lifestyle similar to their favorite influencers.

The Future of the Creator Economy

The future of media consumption will be found on sites like YouTube, TikTok, Twitter, and Twitch. All of these sites cater to a different set of niches.

Eventually, the big media companies will start to buy into the creator economy. It’s to be determined when they’ll realize the gatekeepers aren’t needed anymore.
